Passport to Italy - Summer 2012

As a daughter of italian immigrants, I always felt a great curiousity towards understanding my heritage more. For this reason, I made a choice to take italian language and culture courses abroad in Sorrento, Italy. This study abroad program granted me the opportunity to truly experience life as an Italian, and gave me daily exposure to the new language I was learning. I fell in love with the food, landscape, people, and overall simplicity in the way of life - "la dolce vita."

One of my favorite parts about life in southern Italy is that you could walk or take public transportation virtually anywhere that you needed to. The photo above shows a glimpse of my commute to Sorrento Lingue - the school I was taking courses at. The volcano featured on the horizon is actually Mt. Vesuvius, the only active volcano on mainland Europe! The views on my way to class was always very breathtaking and surreal. Here are some more photos from my experience:
